How to Help
Domestic and intimate partner violence (DIPV) is a community issue; its impact goes farther than individuals. What’s more, DIPV is common and widespread across New Brunswick. There are many ways that you can help to address the issue of DIPV.
Support Our Shelters
If you would like to support the frontline organizations working with survivors, that would be greatly appreciated. Our shelters are registered charitable organizations. They rely on grants, donations, and fundraising to be able to do the work that they do. Here are a few ways that you can support them:
Financial donations
You can donate directly to the organization of your choice. Please visit their website or contact the organization directly to find out how.
Volunteering
Many of our shelters accept volunteers to help with various tasks. You can reach out to your local organization for more information on possible volunteer opportunities.
Fundraising
You can support our shelters by participating in the fundraising events and activities that they organize. Follow our shelters on social media to keep up to date with fundraisers.
Donating goods
Our shelters may accept new or gently used items, depending on their need at the time. In fact, they may be in need of specific items for clients or the house. Gift cards are welcome donations as well. It is best practice to contact the organization directly before bringing a donation.
Christmas sponsorship
The holidays are a challenging time for women and families escaping violence. Our shelters have set up sponsorship programs to help the women and families staying with them have a Christmas. If you are able to, please consider supporting these programs during the holiday season. You can reach out to your local organization for details on how their program works.
